London and District Labour Council Statement on the Hate Crime in London and Call for Solidarity with the Muslim Community and Action on Islamophobia

London and District Labour Council Statement on the Hate Crime in London and Call for Solidarity with the Muslim Community and Action on Islamophobia

The London and District Labour Council shares the grief and shock being experienced by many in London and by the Muslim community in the aftermath of the hate crime perpetrated against a family who lost four members on Sunday, June 6.   Our thoughts are with their relatives, friends, colleagues and all those who are struggling to cope with this horrific and devastating act of violence.  We call for solidarity with the family and the Muslim community, and we join with all of the voices that are demanding a comprehensive investigation into this crime, and calling for action to address Islamophobia.

There will be a vigil today (June 8, 2021) at 700pm at the London Muslim Mosque parking lot, with parking available at the Cherryhill Village Mall.  We ask that everyone attending please follow pandemic safety protocols, and respect social  distancing.

We join with the labour movement, with allies and Governments at all levels, to take action to address Islamophobia and hate, and to demonstrate support for the family and the Muslim community in London, and across the country.  Further details will be forthcoming about crisis resources and specific actions.

In Solidarity,
Patti Dalton
President London and District Labour Council
